Other Info: Update 3/19: Fanny has gotten more comfortable or relaxed and has stopped her barking when I am away from the house. She continues to awe our friends and neighbors. Lately she has enjoyed laying on the front lawn with us and watching the kids playing on their trikes, bikes, scooters and skateboards. Please contact us if you are interested in Fanny, we would love to tell you more about this very special girl.
Update 2/16/07 -Angie is known in our home as Fanny Mae. We named after both the financial institution (because it practically took one to save her) and when I picked her up her fanny was the only thing we could safely touch. The name Fanny fits her very well now because she gives such fantastic fanny wiggles just for walking into the room.
We have had Ms Fanny since October helping her to recover from her attack and infections and we know her very well. She is a very special girl. Many people and lots of money went into saving her and they did so because of her outstanding personality that shown through when she was lying at deaths door. She is so very brave, kind and sweet. It's not every day people will go to such great lengths for a dog, and she is well worth it.
She is fabulous with children. I have an 19 month old who likes to play peek a boo with a baby blanket over Fanny's eyes and she loves it almost as much as my daughter. During Christmas time the two of them would spend time looking up the chimney to see if Santa was coming down. And just before nap time my daughter will lay down with Fanny on her bed for a little snuggle time with her head on Fanny's chest.
Ooooh did I say snuggle? Fanny is queen bee when it comes to snuggling time. During the day she likes to stay out of the way on her bed, but at night when I sit down on the couch and put my feet up, Fanny will catch my eye and come running across the room to gently snuggle on top of my feet for a little head rub and discussion about the day. This is her special time and she does tell my other rather pushy four legged boys to back off with a small stare down. My lab ignores her and she never does anything else, but my boxer (who is the dominant male of our house) will take the other side of the couch and rest his head on her fanny instead.
Fanny likes to sing. I first noticed it when we had come back from one of our better vets checks, from the back seat came this very low howl....it was Fanny singing for joy. Now when we talk about dinner time or a walk or have just arrived home from a long hard day at work she likes to sing to you. Fanny is easy to be with, quiet and careful but when it is time to go for a walk or a jog or outside play she is all systems go.
She is fine to leave in the house unattended for long periods during the day. She does not chew (doesn't really know what a toy is), counter surf, or scratch. If left outdoors when your away she will bark, but stops when you return and ask her to stop. She knows sit, down, go to your bed, shhh, and wait....(although sometime excitement can get the best of her). Once the wind blew the front door open when I was putting the baby down for a nap and Fanny never left the house, but instead paced back and forth from front door to baby's door to let me know something wasn't right.
I think the best home for Fanny would be one that is relatively quiet, with a person or persons who likes to snuggle and go for short walks. Children or grand children are great, dogs are fine, but I don't think she cares for cats.
Fanny is a very sweet girl, who deserve to live the rest of her life in peace and happiness. I am honored each and every day to be Fanny's Foster mom, and proud to be a part of a rescue who will save such a special dog, no matter what.
Angie was mauled by a pit bull that she lived with. Her owner acquired Angie approximately two months before the mauling, and her previous history is unknown. After the mauling, the owner took Angie to a local veterinarian who cleaned and derided the wounds, placed drains in the wounds, performed minimal closure of the wounds, and hospitalized Angie for four days. After four days, Angie was sent home with drains in each wound, and the owner was to bring Angie back for a wound check in two days. Three days after discharge, the owner brought Angie back, and all four wounds (three on the leg and one on the face) were infected with dead and dying tissue at the edges. The owner refused to pay for any more treatment and told the veterinary clinic she was going to shoot Angie.
The veterinary clinic contacted NorCal Boxer Rescue, and asked us to help Angie. The legs wounds were large, deep, infected, and necrotic, and the daily cleaning of the wounds was extremely painful. Angie was a trooper, allowing the veterinarian to clean the wounds daily. The veterinarian told NorCal Boxer Rescue that the best option was probably an amputation, given the fact that the outcome of continued deriding/closing was likely to be poor, and that Angie was enduring significant pain each time the wounds were treated. NorCal Boxer Rescue’s veterinarian concurred.
On October 22, 2006, Angie had surgery to amputate her right front leg and to partially close the wound on her face (the wound was too large to fully close). She has had numerous post operative problems, including a significant infection
in the shoulder where the leg was amputated that necessitated placing her on two extremely potent antibiotics. The face wound is healing nicely, and on November 1, 2006, Angie underwent a second surgery to further close the face wound.
We are hopeful that with continued aggressive intervention, Angie will make a full recovery. Angie is a wonderful boxer. She has tolerated unfathomable pain and has made no attempt to retaliate. Everyone who meets her, loves her.
