Volunteer Spotlight

Karen Heald

NCBR of California would like to recognize Karen Heald, one of NCBR's longest tenured and most dedicated volunteers, in this quarter's Volunteer Spotlight.

Karen started volunteering for NCBR in 2000 and has since worn many hats. She has served as a foster home, assisted with transportation, taken over as medical coordinator, interfaced with shelters, provided NCBR volunteers with guidance regarding medical issues, dealt with veterinarians regarding services and billing, scheduled and approved all vet appointments and procedures, consulted on medical cases for Texas and on legal issues for the organization. Karen also is responsible for all California paperwork (i.e., adoption contracts, vet paperwork, microchip registrations and vet bills) and served on our Board of Directors for a period of time as well.

In addition to the time Karen dedicates to NCBR (which most weeks is equivalent to a full time non-paying job!), Karen is also a San Francisco Firefighter and serves on the board of several other associations, such as San Francisco firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation and San Francisco Firefighters Surviving Families, among others.

Karen's passion for rescue and fierce dedication to save all Boxers in need makes her an irreplaceable volunteer.
