NCBR to Suspend Rescue Efforts

It is with great sadness that NorCal  Boxer Rescue  announces its intent to temporarily suspend all rescue efforts related to pulling Boxers from California and Texas shelters. We have done our best to avoid taking this step, but due to our current financial situation, we have no responsible alternatives.

As many of you who are familiar with our organization know, our adoption fees do not cover the costs of vetting our Boxers, even if the Boxer has no extraordinary issues.  We rely heavily on donations and fundraisers to help make up the difference; however, donations have fallen fairly consistently over the last year while the number of Boxers needing extraordinary care has risen significantly. The end result is that NCBR is, once again, in serious financial debt to the tune of $8,500.

We currently have approximately 80 dogs in rescue awaiting adoption. We will continue to provide these dogs with the medical care and attention that they both require and deserve; however, we will no longer be pulling new dogs from any shelters until our veterinary bills have been paid in full.

We are painfully aware that our decision will mean that many Boxers will die in shelters. That fact alone breaks our hearts and goes against the very nature of our organization. In the end, however, we do believe that this is the only way to sustain the long term survival of NorCal Boxer Rescue.

As always, we are truly thankful for our NCBR volunteers and extended families. We have many supporters, and we are so grateful for all that you do to help us save this wonderful breed. We appreciate your patience and support as we try to regroup and get back to the business of saving Boxer lives.

Let's Play...Sponsor That Boxer!

Hello, ladies and gentlemen! My name is Reed and I am your host for this edition of NorCal Boxer Rescue's Sponsor That Boxer! …the gameshow that allows regular people just like YOU to make a difference in the life of a dog who needs it!

First things first, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am an unaltered flashy brindle Boxer boy who is about 10 months old. I earned the title of “Host” because I am exactly that. I host many, many critters…critters like hook worms, round worms, tape worms, whip worms and, of course, heartworms. I am also host to the critters that cause the dreaded demodectic AND sarcoptic Mange. All of my critter friends have really enjoyed their free ride (as is the case with most celebrity entourages), so I've been left drastically underweight, even by Hollywood standards, and I am currently hosting an infection in my upper respiratory system, too. I guess it's safe to say that I'm a very popular guy, and a natural at this hosting gig. Fortunately for me, the two-leggeds at NorCal Boxer Rescue are doing their best to strip me of my hosting qualifications so that I can move on to another, more suitable career. I'm thinking something in the fields of Couch Holderdowner, Face Licker or a Food Tester would do nicely.

So, enough about me….on to the game! Here's how it works: I will present you with 3 doors, behind each of them is a Boxer who needs a sponsor. I'll give you details about each dog and, based on that information, you can decide which dog you want to help and how much you'd like to give towards their care. The Sponsor That Boxer “Feelgoodometer” will rise higher and higher with each dollar donated, and so will your mood and general feeling of DoGooderness!

So, are you ready? OK, Let's Play!

Doggie Door #1

Meet Annie, an unaltered 10 month old fawn female who was brought into Dallas Animal Services along with Yours Truly. Like me, she is host to many, many critters, including worms of the hook, round, tape, whip and heart variety. She also has sarcoptic mange as well as an upper respiratory infection. She, too, is drastically underweight (so much so that some people say she should audition for the cast of 90210…yikes!) and is need of some serious TLC. She is currently in foster care with NCBR and is getting the love and medical attention that she needs. Once she is over her mange and puts on some weight, she will be healthy enough to be spayed and treated for heartworms. It will be a long road for her, but she is up for the challenge and manages to show her wiggly Boxer spirit a little more with every passing day!

Doggie Door #2

Meet Ruthie, a beautiful unaltered fawn female who weighs in at a pitiful 33 pounds! Ruthie has an open wound on her “bottom” that requires twice daily hydrotherapy and antibiotics. She also tested positive for heartworms and has an upper respiratory infection. Sadly, her emaciation can't be blamed on “hosts” of any sort…she was simply starved. In fact, she is currently the very reluctant star of her own Animal Cruelty case, and her previous owners have also landed at the top of NCBR's Most Likely to Come Back as a Tick List. Despite it all, she is still a happy, grateful girl. She is doing very well in her foster home and is enjoying the little luxuries of Boxer life that she never knew existed. When she is healthy enough, she will be spayed and treated for heartworms. Miss Ruthie is looking forward to her new leash on life!

Doggie Door #3

Guess who's behind Door #3? It's ME! That's right, even celebrity game show hosts need sponsors, too!

ncbr_logo

NorCal Boxer Rescue provides a temporary sanctuary for Boxers in need throughout Northern Texas. Boxers come to us from shelters and from owners who are no longer able to care for them. We provide these animals with veterinary care, spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, a microchip, a temporary foster home at a private residence, lots of love, and placement into a carefully screened home forever.

NCBR is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is run entirely by a dedicated group of volunteers who have an unmatched love
for preserving this wonderful breed. If you have a heart for animals, we invite you get involved in whatever capacity you can.
